This workshop focuses on the age-related issues that can arise when you’re looking for a job and provides practical suggestions for dealing with them. Through interactive exercises, you will identify the many ways that being your age can actually benefit an employer. You will learn strategies for “getting in the door” for an interview as well as strategies for handling age-related questions you may encounter once you go for the interview.

• Become a member of JVS CareerSolution
• Sign-up for a one-on-one meeting the same day with a Career Navigator to develop your personal career action plan 
• Learn to navigate the Career Center calendar and register for workshops and services
• Discover the on-site resources available to help you research career options, search for jobs and work on your resume and job search correspondence

1.0 | INTERVIEW: INTERVIEW ETIQUETTE, ANSWERING BASIC QUESTIONS, AND ENDING THE MEETING
Learn what goes on in an interview, including the preparation required before an interview, the various types of interviews, and why these types are used. Topics include interview etiquette, proper responses to basic interview questions, and strategies for "end of interview" will also be discussed. Using interactive interview exercises, you will practice responses to a variety of scenarios.

Meet one-on-one with a career coach on a first-come, first served basis to discuss any employment issues that you may have. Perhaps you're looking for some clarity on your career direction or need some help to re-energize your job search. Or maybe you have a question about an interview coming up or would like some advice on how to take your resume to the next level. You define how to use your time with a CareerSolution team member. Sessions are 20-30 minutes.

 City Academy CDL June 2018

Join the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development for twice weekly information sessions for City Academy, a new program designed to build training pipelines to place Boston residents in careers in city agencies. The training provides access to entry-level city positions that offer:
• Pay at or above Boston’s Living Wage (currently $14.41/hr)
• Health benefits
• Pensions
• Union membership
• Opportunities for advancement

Initially, City Academy will be recruiting candidates for a15-month Emergency Medical Technician training program. The training is free and stipends are provided for approximately 10 months of the program.

To be eligible, you must:
• Be a Boston resident
• Be 18 years or older
• Have a high school diploma or GED/HiSET
• Have a valid driver’s license
• Be drug-free
