Newton residents who need assistance with their job or career  transition will soon have a new resource in the Chapel Street  office of JVS CareerSolution, a One-Stop Career Center  operating under parent agency, Jewish Vocational Service  (JVS), headquartered in Boston. Wendy Gelberg, a certified  career coach and resume writer, will join Amy Mazur, a National  Certified Career Counselor, in the Newton site starting this  September.

Wendy’s expertise is in helping people who are uncomfortable  "tooting their own horn." At JVS CareerSolution, Wendy  facilitates workshops, coaches individuals, and writes resumes  and LinkedIn profiles. She is also the author of The Successful  Introvert: How to Enhance Your Job Search and Advance Your Career. Samples of her resumes and career advice appear in over 20 books.

She earned a Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. In addition, she is a Certified Professional Resume Writer, Certified Employment Interview Professional, MBTI® Certified Facilitator, and Certified International Job and Career Transition Coach.

When not working, Wendy, a long-time Needham resident, can be found on the tennis court or, in more sedentary moments, doing jigsaw puzzles or – the ultimate puzzle – piecing together her family genealogy.

Wendy will be splitting her time between the Boston and the Newton offices. Most people are introduced to a career center when they have been laid off, but at CareerSolution, we know that there are many more people who would benefit from the services we have to offer!

New Hours

Starting on December 7th, we are keeping our doors open one evening a week to provide services to people who are working, training or otherwise unable to use our services during typical business hours.

On Wednesday, January 20th, nearly 60 job seekers and career changers from across Greater Boston gathered at CareerSolution for a unique event – RE:Launch. Covering topics like networking, resume writing, social media for the job search and the emotional impact of job seeking, this event offered new skills and new perspectives for attendees. The goal was to motivate and inspire talented job seekers while introducing them to the CareerSolution professional staff and the organization’s resources.  As a bonus, all attendees had the opportunity to have a professional head shot taken to refresh their LinkedIn profiles.

Let's face it, an interview can be stressful, especially when you think about how many different types of interviews you may come across in your job search-on the phone, in person, digitally and on-line...OH MY! BUT, not to worry, the good news is most of the time you'll prepare the exact same way for each type of interview.

Searching for a job is part of the employment game that is played every day here in the US. Playing the game includes navigating the interview process, and knowing the rules of the game affects how successful you will be.
